Mokena is served by School District 159, a public school district with a population of about 1,500 students. District 159 schools are Lincoln-Way Central High School and Lincoln Way Elementary School, and elementary school supervision is provided by the Chicago Public Schools System and the Illinois Department of Public Education. Students visit Lincoln Way Central High School at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Art and Design and other schools.
Mokena has a rail link to the Chicago Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTSA) Metra system, which provides access to all components of the Chicago transit system, and a Chicago Department of Transportation (ILDOT) component that connects all components of the Chicago Transit Authority. The CN tracks run along the southern border of Makena and cut through the city in a northeastern and southwestern direction. Maple Brook is away from the noise and traffic jams in the city, but still directly connected to Chicago via MetRA.
